Grimsargh Skew Bridge Road Widening Scheme

Hardcore Crushing was appointed to carry out enabling demolition works at Grimsargh Skew Bridge, supporting the wider Lancashire County Council highway improvement scheme by removing the existing footbridge structure and associated elements ahead of the main construction phase.

Background

Lancashire County Council commissioned the Grimsargh Skew Bridge improvement scheme to widen the road and improve safety at this key pinch-point in the highway network. The scheme was carefully phased to manage disruption to local traffic and residents. Hardcore Crushing was appointed through AE Yates to deliver the enabling demolition package — clearing the redundant footbridge structure and making the site ready for the main highway contractor.

Works Delivered

• Demolition and dismantling of the steel and concrete footbridge structure
• Breaking out of the suspended southern approach slab linking the footbridge to the highway
• Demolition of the two bridge abutments
• Removal of abutment foundations
• Removal of all arising materials from site

Key Considerations

Operating on a live highway environment demanded careful planning around public safety and traffic management. Our works were sequenced and handed over in coordination with the main contractor team, and all enabling activities were completed on time to keep the wider scheme programme moving. The site was left clean and ready for the next construction phase without delay.
