Lodge Mill in Burnley was a witness to over a century of change. The mill stood tall despite numerous challenges — including the devastating fire of 1905, which consumed the building for two days yet somehow left enough of the structure standing to be rebuilt and continue its working life.
By the time Hardcore Crushing were commissioned, Lodge Mill had finally reached the end of its operational life. The site was earmarked for redevelopment as Weavers Lodge — a residential development that would replace the former industrial building with new homes.
Demolishing a mill of Lodge Mill's age, history and scale is never straightforward. The construction methods of the Victorian era — solid brick, stone and timber — create structures that are often surprisingly resilient, and the layout and condition of a building that has been through a fire adds additional complexity to the structural assessment.
Our team worked methodically through the structure, managing the demolition safely and efficiently while minimising disruption to the surrounding residential area. All arising materials were segregated and processed — brick and stone crushed on site to produce usable aggregate, steelwork recycled, and timber processed through local facilities.
Lodge Mill stood for over a century — including a devastating fire in 1905. Our job was to clear it safely, respectfully, and ready for its next chapter as Weavers Lodge.

Lodge Mill demolished, all materials recycled and processed, site cleared and levelled ready for the Weavers Lodge residential development.
